WATCH: Empangeni teen gang strikes again

The CCTV footage shows three intruders breaking into a car, parked inside the property in Aurora Crescent, Empangeni.

EXACTLY one month after a group of teenage boys who broke into an Empangeni home were arrested but released, they are believed to have brazenly struck again.

Last week during the early hours of the morning, resident Jacques Steenkamp found two young boys in his house.

‘They stole electronic gadgets as they did last time and the items were traced back to the very same area of Matshana where the last lot of my possessions were found.’ Steenkamp said.

‘I have upped the security in our home, but this group of boys are shameless and arrogant.

‘I am led to believe these boys are running a syndicate as the Kildare area has been severely targeted. There is a break-in literally every single night of the week.’ said Steenkamp.

Another case has been opened and Empangeni SAPS are currently conducting further investigations before a potential second arrest is made.

Empangeni SAPS spokesperson Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose said a task team has been set up.

‘The team is tasked with preventing burglaries and tracing suspects, and additional patrol vehicles have been deployed in the affected areas at the times most susceptible to break-ins.’ Captain Mdlalose said.

The six juvenile boys arrested after the first burglary and believed to be linked to the recent one are aged between 14 and 16 and hail from KwaMsane.

The boys made their first appearance at the Empangeni Magistrate’s Court last month and remain in the custody of their legal guardians.

A video from CCTV cameras at a home in Aurora Crescent, Empangeni shows three young intruders taking their time to break into a car parked in the property.
