Aquadene robber gets insect treatment

A Richards Bay shop owner was robbed at gunpoint.

AN armed robber who forced an unsuspecting customer to help him rob Dan’s Corner Shop in Aquadene last Tuesday morning, got more than he bargained for – a good dose of insect repellent.

The robber, masquerading as a customer, asked for R5 airtime before retrieving a firearm from his bag and demanding that owner Janette Naicker unlock the security gate.

In disbelief Naicker asked him if he was serious about robbing her store.

‘I grabbed a can of insect repellent under the counter and sprayed him in the face.

‘A customer walked in and he was held at gunpoint and told to jump over the gate, but I attacked him with the spray as well.’

After attacking both the men, she managed to press the panic button and contacted her husband to phone the police.

The traumatised customer gave the gunman some cigarettes and a number of coins which were next to the cash register.

Naicker was extremely impressed with the speedy response from the Richards Bay police.
