Shot security guard dies

He sadly passed away due to his injuries on Friday.

THE security guard who was shot on Tuesday last week during a robbery in the Empangeni CBD, has died.

He passed away in the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital on Friday after undergoing brain surgery in an attempt to save his life.

It is believed he was shot three times in the back and in the head, the robbers fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash and his firearm.

‘The case will automatically become a murder investigation,’ said Empangeni SAPS spokesperson, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose.

‘It will now be a murder and robbery case.’

Investigations are ongoing and no arrests have been made so far. The suspects fled in a silver Volvo, registration NPN 52523.
