IN an operation to prevent cross-border crimes on Wednesday night, Mbazwana police arrested four people for possession of counterfeit cigarettes.
As part of an ongoing operation to crack down on such crimes, Mbazwana SAPS and local traffic officers joined forces and searched numerous vehicles between eManguzi and Mbazwana.
The 17 boxes of cigarettes found are said to have a street value of R170 000. The suspects were arrested, charged with being in possession of illicit cigarettes in terms of the Customs and Excise Act, and will appear in the Ubombo Magistrate’s Court today (Monday).
