Parties sign by-election code of conduct

Political parties came together to sign the Independent Electoral Commission's Code of Conduct which stipulates tolerance during Mtubatuba by-elections.

AHEAD of next week’s by-elections in Mtubatuba, all active political parties came together to sign a Code of Conduct which clearly stipulates tolerance as the cornerstone of the elections.

The by-elections come after COGTA (Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs) MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube’s dissolved Mtubatuba Municipality’s council in February. Representatives of the African Independent Congress (AIC), African National Congress (ANC), Inkhatha Freedom Party (IFP), Democratic Alliance (DA), Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and National Freedom Party (NFP) attended the signing ceremony organised by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

Mtubatuba Magistrate Pienaar conducted the ceremony in the presence of IEC officials, political party members, community members, traditional leaders and SAPS.

Once the Code of Conduct had been signed, the political parties engaged in a debate about service delivery in Mtubatuba after the elections.

All parties acknowledged the need for effective service delivery for residents of Mtubatuba and surrounding areas.

IEC Provincial Electoral Officer Mawethu Mosery reminded voters that all voting stations in Mtubatuba will be open from 7am to 9pm on 6 May.
