Grantham Park opens Grade R classes

Local school opens doors for Grade R pupils.

GRANTHAM Park Primary School successfully introduced its new Grade R classes earlier this year, the first of many new developments to come.

The Grade R classes are situated on the lower field in a newly renovated building once occupied by staff members.

Plans to develop arose last year and construction began shortly after in November. With very little time and a strict budget, Headmaster George van Wyk, along with a dedicated team, pulled off the mammoth task.

Forty-one pupils now occupy the two classrooms.

The structure includes an open plan classroom, large bathroom, sick room, aftercare class and outdoor extramural facilities.

Grade R teacher Annelize Venter said, ‘Each child receives attention and is exposed to a number of activities to assist with learning. This is made possible by the spacious, bright and welcoming environment in which they learn.’

Materials used for both inside and outside the classes were made from recycled scrap.

Further plans include additional outdoor facilities, a children’s traffic circle and security cameras, to name a few.
