Valentine’s Day killer to hear his fate

Parolee found guilty of murdering his girlfriend.

AN eSikhaleni parolee, who hacked his girlfriend to death on Valentine’s Day just three months after being released on parole, has again been found guilty.

Bongani Nxumalo (48), who had been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for murder, was convicted on another count of murder at the Mtunzini High Court.

The deceased, identified as Thino Mlambo (28) also of eSikhaleni, met and formed a romantic relationship with the accused shortly after his release.

According to police reports, an argument ensued and the man attacked Mlambo with a bush knife, fatally wounding her across her back.

He then disposed her body at a nearby veld in Mpembeni Reserve before calling the police and her family.

‘When he called, he admitted that he had killed her and explained where he had left her body.

‘He also said he was in Pietermaritzburg and would never be found,’ said Empangeni SAPS spokesperson, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose.

Following investigations by Empangeni Crime Intelligence, together with Ulundi Tactical Response Team and K9 Unit, the accused was eventually nabbed at eSigubudu Reserve in KwaNongoma.

Sentencing will take place on 14 May at the Pietermaritzburg High Court.
