Science boost for Tholokuhle High pupils

Tronox empowers Tholokuhle pupils with science kit.

AN air of excitement reigned supreme at Tholokuhle High when Tronox visited the school on Friday to empower its pupils with a science kit.

As one of the best performing high schools in the uThungulu District, Tholokuhle attracts many pupils from in and around the eNseleni Township, resulting in serious shortages of teaching aids.

After hearing about the school’s plight, Tronox General Manager Louis Booysen decided to take the opportunity to ensure more pupils are exposed to science.

‘With this donation we aim at sparking an interest in the science field among all pupils. Owing to a lack of technical skills in our region, as a mining company Tronox has taken upon itself to encourage pupils to focus on science subjects while at school,’ Booysen said.

He said only reading textbooks does not help the pupils, but providing them with hands-on practical means of exploring the subject was crucial.

Passing on his gratitude, an overjoyed Tholokuhle Principal V Hlatshwayo said, ‘All that remains of us is to excel in the science fields, and we wish to thank Tronox for making it all possible.’

Hlatshwayo challenged other local companies to do the same, empowering school pupils with science kits as most of them require engineers and other technicians.
