On parole for murder, an eSikhaleni man was re-arrested for murdering his girlfriend on Valentine's Day.

RELEASED on parole three months ago, after being sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for murder, an eSikhaleni man was re-arrested yesterday, after brutally murdering his girlfriend on Valentine’s Day.

Currently in custody, the 48-year-old parolee is expected to appear at the eSikhaleni Magistrate’s Court this week.

The deceased identified as Thino Mlambo (28) also of eSikhaleni, met and formed a romantic relationship with the accused shortly after his release.

According to police reports, an argument ensued last Saturday and the man attacked Mlambo with a bush knife, fatally wounding her across her back.

He then disposed of her body at a nearby veld in Mpembeni Reserve before calling the police and her family.

‘When he called, he admitted that he had killed her and where he had left her body. He also said he was in Pietermaritzburg and would never be found,’ said Empangeni SAPS spokesperson, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose.

Following investigations by Empangeni Crime Intelligence, together with Ulundi Tactical Response Team and K9 Unit, the accused found refuge in eFuyeni Reserve in Ntambanana before fleeing to eSigubudu Reserve in KwaNongoma where he was found and arrested.
