No action on dry taps

Water is being pumped to KwaMbonambi from the Nseleni reservoir only twice daily.

WHILE the threat of a water crisis looms large in Zululand, some residents in KwaMbonambi, have reportedly been without water for at least a month.

Owing to the restrictions in the region, water is being pumped to KwaMbonambi from the Nseleni reservoir only twice daily, but a lack of pipe maintenance appears to be exacerbating the problem.

‘We were informed that we would get water from 6 to 8am and from 6 to 8pm, but the water doesn’t reach our flats. Sometimes I can’t even fill my kettle or even a glass of water,’ said one resident who hasn’t used her geyser since October because of the little water available.

The Mfolozi Municipality allegedly informed the resident that her lack of water is an isolated case because of a broken water pipe, but nothing has been done to rectify the problem.

While all KwaMbonambi residents are affected, some are worse off than others and no answers or help are forthcoming.

The uThungulu District Municipality spokesperson declined to comment, but the Technical Manager responsible for pumping water to KwaMbonambi residents agreed to look into the matter.
