Clean audit praised by Auditor General

uThungulu District Municipality holds the title of Best Performing District Municipality in KZN for two consecutive years.

UTHUNGULU District Municipality (UDM) welcomed the Auditor General of South Africa, Thembekile Kimi Makwetu to the council chambers, as part of his roadshow visiting all clean audit municipalities.

In the 2013/2014 financial year, the UDM achieved four clean audit outcomes which included uThungulu as a district, the uThungulu entities – uThungulu Financing Partnership and uThungulu House Development, and the local municipality of uMhlathuze.

The UDM holds the title of Best Performing District Municipality in KZN for two consecutive years.

‘Today, we want to congratulate you. You set the scene for many other district municipalities and it is something which you should strive to sustain,’ the Auditor General said.

He commended the Municipality for its significant improved level of growth in expenditure and the transparent manner in which finances are being conducted.

Municipal Manager, Mandla Nkosi attributed the clean audit achievement to an effective leadership team which regulates ongoing communication with all relevant stakeholders.

Nkosi highlighted that this clean audit will not result in complacency but rather motivate the ‘team’ to work towards becoming the best district in the country.

The Municipality then accompanied the Auditor General on a visit to the Greater Mthonjaneni Regional Bulk Scheme, a project undertaken by the Municipality which focuses on supplying potable water and sanitation for the people of the district.
