Man shot dead for beer

The 31-year-old was shot in the neck and died on the scene.

A QUIET evening enjoying a home-made meal with a friend turned into horror scene when a young man was gunned down in his house on Sunday.

According to eSikhawini SAPS, the man responded to a knock on the front door when six armed men forced entry into his home at around 7pm and demanded beer.

The 31-year-old was shot in the neck and died on the scene.

His surviving friend recalled the sudden invasion speaking to police.

‘We were just relaxing in the house when we heard people outside,’ he said.

‘They came in and first demanded beer, but we told them we only have cigarettes.

‘Suddenly two of them pulled out their guns and pushed me into the other room where they pulled a pillow case over my head and at that moment, I heard the two shots.

‘I realised my friend had been shot.

‘The men ran off with some personal belongings and then I just saw blood everywhere.’

Police said a TV set, two cell phones, cigarettes and an undisclosed amount of cash were also taken from the house.

ESikhawini SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Thembinkosi Mkhumane said they are investigating cases of armed robbery and murder.
