Brazen robbers hit Richards Bay supermarket

Lakeside Spar was held up by armed men yesterday.

A QUIET Sunday supermarket run turned into a shopper’s nightmare as four armed robbers barged into Richards Bay’s Lakeside Spar yesterday morning.

The men reportedly forced themselves into the Spar manager’s office while he was handing over the store’s takings to a cash-in-transit guard.

After removing the guard’s firearm, the men fled with a large amount of money.

They drove off in a powder blue Mercedes Benz.

No one was injured in the incident, but live ammunition were found on the floor of the mall right outside the Spar entrance.

The Richards Bay SAPS forensic team were soon on the scene to cordon off the area and investigate.

SAPS spokesperson Debbie Ferreira said a case for business robbery was opened and no suspects have been arrested.
