Yolanda is top of the class

Yolanda Ngubane named one of the top pupils in the uThungulu District.

WITH the ambition to one day build a home for her taxi driver father, top uThungulu District matric achiever Yolanda Ngubane is ready for challenges ahead as she prepares to study chemical engineering at UKZN.

This comes after the success of her seven distinctions, which were commended at a ceremony held on Tuesday at the Durban International Convention Centre, dedicated to honouring the best achievers in KZN.

With great support from her family and dedicated teachers, Yolanda has been top of her class since Grade 8.

‘I can’t thank my teachers enough,’ she said.

After losing her mother in 2007, her father and older sister, who is currently completing her last year of university, have been pillars of strength in her life.

‘I know my mom would have been proud of me,’ said an emotional Yolanda.

Although she has a long road ahead, she is aiming for gold as she gets ready for the next four years of study.

‘The first thing I will do when I have a job is build my father a house,’ said Yolanda.

‘Only then will I buy my first car. I have big goals for myself and this is only the beginning.’
