Farewell to Cansa superstar

Cansa Relay for Life Chairperson - Adele Pienaar was fondly remembered at a moving church service on Friday.

ON what would have been her 46th birthday, Cansa Relay For Life (RFL) stalwart Adele Pienaar was laid to rest from the AGS Kerk Sonder Mure in Arboretum on Friday.

Moving tributes were paid to the woman who, despite her own private battle with the cancer that ultimately consumed her body, worked tirelessly as Chairperson of the RFL committee, spending endless hours coordinating the multitude of tasks that made it successful.

Using the theme of ‘the value of a good name’, Pastor Jacques Janse van Rensburg spoke eloquently on the legacy Adele’s life will leave after her passing.

‘You build a name when your love ceases to be about yourself, and serves others.

‘This is the Adele we all knew and loved,’ he said.

‘Beyond this, her name is also known in heaven because of her faith and dedication.’

Adele, who passed away on Wednesday, is survived by her sons Francois, Jaco and Janneman, her mother Lorraine van Eyssen, and six sisters.

The church service was extremely well attended by former colleagues at the City of uMhlathuze, member of the Cansa uThungulu fraternity and volunteers, and the many whose lives she touched with her bubbly personality and positive attitude.

A number of fond memories were shared by members of the congregation.
