Triple murder accused in court

Numsa murder suspect in eShowe court.

A 27-year-old suspect arrested on Friday is facing three charges of murder and three for attempted murder in the eShowe Magistrate’s Court, relating to a shooting which resulted in the death of three Numsa members in Sundumbili.

Njabulo Dube, Sibonelo Ntuli and Ntobeko Maphumulo were killed instantly, while Mduduzi Buthelezi suffered three gunshot wounds to the back during the incident in August. Two others escaped the shooting unharmed.

The group was returning from a Numsa workshop in uMhlanga and decided to braai at a local braai venue before going to Maphumulo’s home.

While they were standing on the pavement, a man approached them and asked to speak to Maphumulo

While they were talking, gunshots were suddenly heard and after gunning down Maphumulo, the man opened fire on the rest of the group.

Ironically, the suspect was already being detained in the eShowe Prison in connection with an unrelated armed robbery when he was tracked down by the Durban Organised Crime Unit and Sundumbili detectives.
