Given wheels of hope

Bheki Gumede gives his community wheels of hope.

LOCAL eSikhaleni seNkosi Businessman and philanthropist Bheki Gumede is a man on a mission to help members of his community, especially those who are unable to walk or get around with ease.

On Tuesday morning, Gumede visited his former Qantayi High School, where the life of 17-year-old invalid Sebe Dube was made better as she received a new pair of crutches and a schoolbag full of goodies including cosmetics, face cloths and sweets.

Local concerned youth also presented her with school uniform and a pair of school shoes.

Sebe’s father, who is unemployed, thanked Gumede and the local youth profusely for helping his daughter.

Since November 11 was Gumede’s birthday, he had asked his friends, acquaintances, and business partners to donate a packet of sanitary pads towards his mission of ‘keeping schoolgirls in class’.

He was thus able to collect 62 packs of pads to present to Qantayi School girls.

Principal VJ Khumalo expressed great thanks to Gumede for changing the lives of her pupils.

Businesses that made it possible for Gumede to realise his dream were VIP Protection Services and his son Thabiso Gumede’s company Ryt Thru.

New set of wheels

Little Sibusiso Mlungwane (9), who cannot walk, was another beneficiary of Gumede’s mission and received a life-changing wheelchair to give him mobility.

Thanking his benefactor for the new set of wheels, Sibusiso said, ‘I am happy that now I can also be able to attend school.’

Gumede and his entourage completed their wonderful mission with a visit to a grateful Msawenkosi Mjadu, whom he presented with a new walker.
