Carina still in coma

Richards Bay teen, Carina du Plessis still fighting for her life

RICHARDS Bay accident victim Carina du Plessis (19) is still in a coma and fighting for her life at the Netcare The Bay Hospital.

Du Plessis suffered serious injuries, including a broken back, neck and jaw, after her car skidded off the wet road and hit a tree near Green Africa Nursery just after 6am on Sunday, 2 November.

Although the swelling on her brain has subsided, doctors are still in the process of removing a build-up of fluid in her lungs.

Further treatment will only begin once she comes out of the coma.

Du Plessis’ family have been overwhelmed by messages of support from friends and family which have been streaming in daily via social media, as well as personal messages.

‘Carina, I hope you get better soon and make a full recovery. It absolutely shocked me to hear what happened, you are in my prayers,’ said friend Toni Koster.

‘Carina du Plessis, this wait for you to wake up is a looooong wait, but I really pray that you keep getting stronger daily. I think about you and the long road to recovery, but I will be there every step of the way as will many others who love you and care for you. Love you millions,’ said Gaby Gabriella Paulo.

Mom Erika expressed her gratitude to everyone who has offered and provided support, including Netcare The Bay Hospital staff and the Richards Bay Fire Station.
