Two men sought to help in kidnap investigation

Police are looking for two men who they believe can assist them in an Empangeni kidnapping case.

EMPANGENI police are searching for two men who they believe can assist them in their investigation into the recent kidnapping of an Empangeni businessman.

The men are Pakistani national Amir Yassen (32) and Ntambanana resident Lethukuthula, popularly known as Ntshebe.

In September, the Empangeni businessman, who prefers to remain anonymous, was kidnapped and held hostage for a ransom of R1-million.

Three Pakistani males and a 40-year-old South African were arrested and charged with kidnapping and attempted carjacking.

The men appeared at the Empangeni Magistrate’s Court, where one suspect was released while the other three remained in police custody.

According to Empangeni SAPS spokesperson, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose, the 39-year-old businessman was followed home after he left his business premises.

‘A double cab bakkie pulled up and the armed men confronted him. They forced him into their bakkie and drove off with him,’ said Mdlalose.

‘The men made contact with the victim’s family and demanded a ransom of R1-million. Following negotiations, the suspects and the family settled on a lower amount and a point of payment was agreed upon.’

The police were contacted and informed, but on the day of the exchange the suspects did not arrive at the agreed destination.

Anyone with information can contact Investigating Officer Detective Warrant Officer Kevin Vandayar on 082 5570645 or 035 9071450. Alternatively, Detective Constable Sipho Mnguni can be contacted on 078 4490946.
