Parents shocked by daughter’s inappropriate relationship at school

Richards Bay school scandal investigated by the Department of Education.

THE Department of Education is investigating allegations of an ‘inappropriate relationship’ between a minor pupil and staff member at Richards Bay Secondary School in Brackenham.

This after the matter was reported by the parents who have since opened a case of sexual assault at the Richards Bay Police Station against the employee.

According to the father, his 15 -year- old daughter was missing from class on 20 October and after a search she was found in the office of the female staff member.

It was determined that the employee and pupil were involved in an ‘inappropriate relationship’ and attempts to put an end to it failed.

Last week the young girl overdosed on medication and is still receiving hospital treatment.

The parents said they have been visiting the school to resolve the matter, but all their attempts have been in vain.

They have since sought intervention by the Department of Education and police.

The father said even after the suicide attempt, his child remains suicidal and the ordeal has been traumatising as his family desperately exhaust all avenues to gain help.

Richards Bay SAPS spokesperson Captain Debbie Ferreira confirmed that a case of sexual assault was opened.

At the time of going to print, Department of Education spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi said he could not confirm exact details as feedback was still awaited.
