FURIOUS that the then 19-year-old victim did not have mutual feelings for him, a Mtunzini man held a girl hostage for three days, repeatedly raping her.
On Friday, Mandla Zincume (21) took to the dock at the Ngwelezane Regional Court where he was handed down a 20-year sentence for rape which he is expected to serve at Qalakabusha Prison.
According to court reports, Zincume, last year, approached the victim in the Mongezi area and confessed his undying love for her. The victim rejected Zincume and he retaliated by forcefully taking her to his place of residence, where he raped her.
On the third day, the victim managed to escape and opened a case at the Mtunzini SAPS.
Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit further investigated the matter which finally led to his arrest.
‘This will send a strong message to the would-be rapists that we will thoroughly investigate all cases directed against women and children and arrest all those committing these crimes,’ said Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni.
