Two appear in court for Ging cash-in-transit heist.

THE Richards Bay Organised Crime Unit arrested a second suspect in connection with the cash-in-transit heist on 20 October between eShowe and Gingindlovu.

An unknown number of suspects allegedly opened fire on the security van and the driver lost control.

The robbers demanded the safe key and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect arrested by the unit, assisted by the Mtunzini and eSikhawini police on the day of the heist, made his second court appearance in the Mtunzini Magistrate’s Court this week.

Following up on information received, the Organised Crime Unit arrested the second suspect (43) at his home in Ntambanana near Empangeni on Tuesday.

On searching the homestead the police recovered three firearms as well as R27 000 cash in his house.

The suspect’s brother (52) was found to be in possession of an unlicensed .38 revolver and was also arrested.

All the firearms will be sent to ballistics to ascertain if they were used in the commission of any crime in the country.
