Mtunzini man arrested in connection with six murder cases.

A HUGE police manhunt came to an end when a 45-year-old murder suspect was nabbed in Mtunzini on Tuesday. The arrest was made by the Empangeni Crime Intelligence and Rapid Response Unit following a tip-off that led to a house at Manzamnyama Reserve.

The suspect was in possession of two unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

It is alleged he attacked and shot two victims in the Mtunzini area on 27 September. According to the police Khulekani Mgwaba (31) and Sibusiso Mnguni (34) were asleep in their house when they were attacked and killed.

The suspect is also linked to four other murder cases, including the murder of two security guards at Duffs Railway station in Ntuzuma in 2008.

The KZN police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, welcomed the arrest.

‘The suspect was on the run since 2008 and finally he is now behind bars. I want to thank the community for the valuable information they provided to the police that led to the arrest,’ she said.

The recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic tests, and the suspect will appear in the Mtunzini Magistrate’s Court today (Thursday).
