OUTSHINING district municipalities in the province, uThungulu District scooped the R1-million rand prize for the Best Performing District Municipality as well as Best Clean Audit accolades at the KZN Municipal Excellence Awards.
This is the second consecutive year the municipality has won the awards, hosted by the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA).
Celebrating the achievements at uThungulu House on Tuesday morning, District Municipal Manager Mandla Nkosi said the municipality will commit itself to maintaining the standards of excellence from year to year.
‘If anything, we will do even better. These awards are the results of a collective effort of both the leadership and management. We must also recognise the important role played by our staff, who are the foundation upon which our service excellence is based,’ he said.
Meanwhile, the district continued to add to their list of achievements by also earning the Best Branch runner-up prize and three Clean Audit awards at the Institute of Municipal Finance Officers (IMFO) conference recently.
