How rural women are changing the world

With the 15th of October being the International Day of Rural Women, now is the perfect time to highlight the role of women in rural communities, not only in South Africa, but globally too.

According to the United Nations, “rural women play a critical role in the rural economies of both developed and developing countries. In most parts of the developing world they participate in crop production and livestock care, provide food, water and fuel for their families, and engage in off-farm activities to diversify their families’ livelihoods. In addition, they carry out vital functions in caring for children, older persons and the sick.”

Farming First, a non-profit organisation dedicated to raising awareness around agricultural development, have created an infographic which highlights the importance of rural women in the farming sector. View the infographic below, and let us know about rural farming initiatives in your area.
