Port tower to get a lift

TNPA closes entry to lookout point for duration of construction work on control station

THE Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has cordoned off road access to Richards Bay’s popular lookout point while constructing an additional level to the three-storey port control station.

According to TNPA, the extension and renovation work should be completed by 20 September next year, in which case the area will once again be opened to the public.

‘Van Rooyen Road will be closed to public access, with access only permitted to TNPA card holders and emergency vehicles,’ the Port Authority said in a statement.

‘During the construction period, Port Control employees may also be requested to park their vehicles ‘outside’ as and when required.

‘All port users are requested to adhere to flagmen, road signage and speed limits for safety reasons.

‘We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.’
