Honour for local community leaders

Community leader, BV Mthethwa honoured for sterling community development efforts.

COMMUNITY stalwart BV Mthethwa received the Best Exemplary Community Development and Leadership trophy and certificate at the Inheritor’s annual Community Achievement Awards (Indondo) ceremony in Pietermaritzburg last month.

The Indondo awards is the flagship programme of the Inheritor’s Foundation Church of Christ.

Mthethwa and Zululand philanthropist and businessman Ishwar Ramlutchman were the two Zululanders honoured by the organisation.

Mthethwa said he championed community development and after his visits to China and India he brought back knowledge to empower local communities.

In addition, he was instrumental in the roll-out of the Kha Ri Gude mass literacy campaign which enables adults above the age of 15 years to become literate.

Initiated and managed by the Department of Education, the campaign enables adult learners to read, write and calculate in their mother tongue, in line with the Unit Standards for ABET level 1, and to learn spoken English.

He has also written books which are waiting to be published and has spearheaded training and development initiatives to impart his knowledge and share his experience in politics.
