Water shortage warning

uThungulu District Municipality is implementing a water tanker delivery schedule to the affected areas.

THE uThungulu District Municipality has issued a warning to the communities about imminent loss of water supply to several areas in their jurisdiction.

Due to ongoing dry conditions, water consumers of uMfolozi and Ntambanana Municipalities are expected to experience water restrictions.

The affected areas are supplied by the Upper Nseleni Pump Station, which in turn is supplied by the City of uMhlathuze.

Due to low water levels at the City’s raw water source, pumping of water has been reduced to 12 hours per day, instead of the usual 24 hours.

This situation is expected to continue until water levels at the raw water source are increased through rainfall.

The affected areas are:

Ntambanana Municipality: Wards 6 and 8- Mambuka (J-Res); Ward 5 – Maxwell-Sabokwe; Ward 8 – Obizo, and a portion of ward 7.

uMfolozi Municipality: Kwambonambi town; Ward 7 – Isihuzu, Mabhuyeni Zone 2,3 and 6, steel tank stationed at kwaLamula; Ward 8 – Emzini, Makhandeni; Wards 9 and 12 – Sabhuza, Mankayiyane; Ward 10 – Nhlabosini, Inkanyezi and Madanishini, Gegede; Ward 11 – Baqoqe; Ward 12 – Makhwezini, Shayamoya & Mphathiswana; Ward 13 – Ocilwane; Ward 15 – Nxibeni, Phathane, Nkiyankiya, Soya and kwaMendu.

uThungulu District Municipality is implementing a water tanker delivery schedule to the affected areas, broken down according to wards and listed according to the names of the ward councilors:

Sunday: Cllr Thusi and Cllr Makhanya,

Monday: Cllr Simelane, Cllr Cebekhulu and Cllr Ndimande,

Tuesday: Cllr Chonco (J Res) and Cllr Cebekhulu (J Res),

Wednesday: Cllr Cebekhulu (Obizo), Cllr Sibiya and Cllr Mthimkhulu,

Thursday: Cllr Bhengu,

Friday: Cllr Mpungose and Cllr Mgenge,

Saturday: Cllr Mnqayi.

The municipality apologises for the inconvenience caused, and assures water users attempts are being made to ensure all communities are provided with water.
