Drain drama still stinks

The stormwater drain adjacent to the Zululand Remedial School is still under construction.

FIVE months after the job was scheduled to be completed, the storm water drain running parallel to the Zululand Remedial School’s field is still causing a stink.

The job, which involved replacing lightweight material pipes with more solid concrete pipes, was started in March, but has still not been completed.

‘The quality of workmanship and choice of materials is pathetic and a job that should have been done properly once, is been done incorrectly over and over again,’ said Zululand Remedial School Principal Des Millin.

‘The old pipes have been left behind and the manholes do not have covers over them. There is a terrible smell wafting over the schools field from the stagnant water. It is a safety and health hazard, especially with children using the field on a daily basis. This is unacceptable,’ said Millin.

‘After the land has been cleared of all the vegetation, illegal dumping is taking place. I was standing at the top of the field and I saw a municipal vehicle drive onto the open ground and dump a whole lot of rubbish only a few metres from the schools field.’

At the time of going to the print, the municipality were unable to comment.
