Motorist fined for pointing gun at traffic cop

Motorist pays the price for law evasion.

A MOTORIST convicted on reckless and negligent driving and pointing a firearm at a law enforcement officer in December has had his driver’s licence suspended for six months and was fined R16 000 or two years imprisonment.

Sphelele Mkhize was sentenced in the Richards Bay Magistrate’s Court last week on two charges: for reckless and negligent driving and fined R15 000 and for pointing of anything which is likely to lead a person to believe it is a firearm, R1 000.

The 35-year-old was travelling on Dune Road in Meerensee on the 12 December and failed to stop at a roadblock and was pursued by traffic officers.

When the law enforcement officer gave chase into Mzingazi, the motorist pointed the firearm at the official and he was arrested when he stopped outside a tavern.

  1. What did he think??? Oeh eh eh, I can’t stop laughing at this stupid act! Lol. Maybe he thought he could get away.

  2. Ok, so you get a bigger fine for driving like a maniac than you do for pointing a firearm and threatening to kill someone!

Does anyone see how illogical that is?

  3. Finger happy cops trying to cover up for their actions. They shot at his vehicle and he stopped, when they searched the car they found a gas gun in his cabby hole and fabricated the whole story against him. Its lies that he pointed a gun at an armed policeman, no person with a family and kids would risk his life that way and point a toy at someone who is carrying a real gun. Sense sometime makes you see through the lies.
