Dam levels still low

The Eshlazi Dam in eShowe is a mere puddle.

CONCERNS were raised earlier this year regarding the quality and availability of water in eShowe.

The Eshlazi Dam, which is a feeder dam to the Rutledge Park Dam, is a mere puddle and this is obviously contributing to the sludge and mud being supplied to the residents.

Many residents are complaining about the stench of the water, many saying it has a sewer smell.

The level of the Rutledge Park Dam, from where the water is pumped, is even worse and has been very low since April.

While it would be easy to blame the low rainfall for the water levels, there appears to be no plan in place regarding the management of the water supply to the town.

Water cuts are common place and the water supply has become a joke.

Attempts to find out what the situation is from the responsible body for water supply to the town, uThungulu District Municipality results in, either being shunted from pillar to post or hanging on as telephone extensions are not answered.

It appears no one is prepared to give a comment as to what the situation is or take responsibility for the situation.

New water pipes are being laid which is positive, but if the situation continues there will not be any water to flow through the pipes.
