Life sentence for teacher killer

Two men in court for murder and robbery of a high school teacher.

JUSTICE was served at the Mtunzini High Court last week when two KwaDlangezwa Nginjini Reserve men were sentenced for the murder case of a Mgezeni high school teacher.

Sibongiseni Mbuyazi Mbonambi (25) and Zamani Magwaza (23) were sentenced to 15 years imprisonment each for robbery with aggravated circumstances, while Mbonambi received an additional life sentence for murder.

In 2012 teacher Velephi Biyela (45) of Ntambanana was shot, killed and robbed of her Hyundai bakkie.

Biyela was shot once in her neck and died on the way to hospital.

‘Ntambanana police followed leads on the two men and found them at KwaDlangezwa,’ said Ntambanana SAPS Detective Warrant Officer Mboneni Mayise.

‘They were in the possession of an unlicensed 3.8 special revolver loaded with three live rounds and three empty cartridges, as well as the bakkie,’ he said.
