School teacher goes extra mile for pupils

Richards Bay school teacher sponsors pupils with new uniforms

MAKING a personal contribution, a Kati Primary School teacher in Mandlanzini donated new school uniforms and shoes to two pupils when she found they were being absent because of a lack of clothing items.

The Grade 5 teacher Gerty Hlabisa said Senamile Mthethwa and Thabani Mbatha were not attending school because they did not have uniforms and this prompted her to purchase the items.

She said many pupils face the same situation and some walk to school with no shoes and jerseys during winter.

‘It is our task to teach but also to ensure that pupils attend school and we have to contribute where we can; there is a great need among our pupils,’ she said.

Many of the children do not have full uniforms or have to wear torn or worn out gear.
