A MAN accused of murdering his stepson in a KwaMbonambi jail cell two weeks ago, will face the justice system on 15 September.

Although Thamsanqa Ndlovu will first appear at the KwaMbonambi Magistrate’s Court next month, the case will be transferred to the Richards Bay Regional Court for the September date.

According to police, Ndlovu was detained at the KwaMbonambi SAPS holding cells on charges of raping the victim’s mother.

His stepson was later put in the same cell for burglary and theft at about 1.30am.

At 6.15am, a duty officer visited the cell where she discovered the 20-year-old man’s body, said KwaMbonambi SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Aubrey Bongani Msane.

The incident was reported to the station commander and Msane said police immediately conducted interviews with inmates to find out what caused the young man’s death.

‘It was alleged the suspect assaulted the deceased by kicking him repeatedly and hitting him with a two-litre plastic bottle filled with water, accusing the deceased’s mother for his incarceration,’ Msane said.

Ndlovu was charged with murder in addition to the rape charge.
