Trading stalls near completion

Empangeni A Rank traders anxiously await the completion of their stalls.

EMPANGENI A Rank traders are anxiously waiting for the completion of their stalls which are still under construction.

Speaking to the Zululand Observer, A Rank Traders’ Association Chairperson Mama Florence Gumede said, ‘It has taken a whole seven months for this construction, but we are still in the dark as to when they will finish.

‘There are talks that the construction company which was building them has disappeared, leaving paving outside the stalls undone.’

Even though many of the mamas who ply their trade at this bus/ taxi rank were initially not happy with the size of the stalls being built, after speaking with uMhlathuze Municipality about this concern, they were happy to hear shelves will be built on the walls of each stall for their stock, leaving them enough room inside.

The municipality is also building them new toilets, from where they will fetch water.

According to Mama Florence, Eskom has just installed electricity in their stalls.

‘All that remains is paving, before they move in to their brand new trading rooms,’ she said.

Attempts to get a comment from uMhlathuze Municipality were unsuccessful at the time of going to print.
