Suspect pinpointed in Bay doctor’s murder

Cops zoom in on suspect in Professor Humphrey Ngcobo murder case.

RICHARDS Bay police are hot on the heels of a suspect wanted in connection with the brutal murder of Zululand clinical psychologist Professor Humphrey Ngcobo (47) earlier this year.

Widely believed to be a ‘hit’ attack, the well-known Richards Bay academic was killed in a hail of bullets in his vehicle in the early hours of Sunday, 23 March.

In a major breakthrough on Wednesday, Captain Debbie Ferreira told the Zululand Observer that police were on the hunt for 25-year-old Nkosingiphile Velemseni Mkhize.

‘He is being sought in connection with the murder of Dr Ngcobo as well as other cases in the area. He is believed to be either in Richards Bay or Mkhuze,’ said Ferreira.

‘Anyone with information relating to his whereabouts should contact Captain IM Gambu immediately on 081 3811168.’

The unmarried Dr Ngcobo had been based at Life Empangeni Garden Clinic for the past 17 years and was the former head of the Psychology Department at the University of Zululand.

Police confirmed that nine bullets had penetrated Ngcobo’s luxury BMW through the driver’s window and windscreen, fatally wounding the doctor in the chest and abdomen area.

He was reportedly leaving Bhubesi Guest House at Mzingazi after a graduation party at around 3.10am when he was approached by an unknown male wearing a pinkish apron and a woman’s hat.

Two occupants in the vehicle miraculously escaped with no injuries.
