Suburb burglaries down

Incidents of residential burglaries have decreased significantly in Meerensee.

INCIDENTS of residential burglaries have decreased significantly in Meerensee but residents have still been urged to continue to keep their guard up and ensure safety security measures are enforced at all times.

This after several burglaries were reported in the suburb last week.

Richards Bay SAPS spokesperson Captain Debbie Ferreira said while crime has decreased and fewer cases were reported, the criminal element was still prevalent and community members must always have doors at security gates locked at all times to prevent being targeted.

Last week, in the early hours of Thursday morning, a complainant at Davidson Lane was awakened by an unknown man who used an instrument to gain entry through a window, a cellphone was stolen from the property.

Meanwhile, later that afternoon a flat in Kitefish Street was burgled at about 1pm, the alarm was activated and security responded, the door was forced open with an unknown instrument.
