Parachutist injured at Ulundi Air Show

Sky diver injured during landing at Ulundi Air Show.

A SKYDIVER from the Durban Skydive Centre, taking part in the Ulundi Air Show on Saturday at the Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi Airport, was injured when he landed.

Five parachutists took part in the opening event of the show.

They boarded their plane with a strong wind blowing.

While the plane climbed to reach the drop zone, the wind speed picked up, reaching close to 25km/hour.

Four of the skydivers landed safely, but one, with over 350 jumps to his credit, landed ‘awkwardly’ and it is believed he damaged his hip.

He was transported to the control centre at the airport by ambulance before being flown by Fedair to Virginia Airport, where an ambulance was on standby awaiting his arrival.

He was transferred to the Umhlanga Hospital.
