Car crash carnage

A number of people were seriously injured over the weekend in two separate accidents on the N2.

FIVE people were injured, two critically, in a head-on collision on the N2 at the R102 turn-off (near Canefields) on Sunday night.

Tow-in Services’ Wynand Strydom, who was on the scene, said a Golf travelling from Durban was unable to stop in time when a Corsa turned in front of it.

Two of the three occupants in the Corsa sustained serious injuries, stabilised at the scene and then transported to Ngwelezane Hospital for further treatment.

The third occupant and the two in the Golf suffered minor injuries and treated at the scene.

• In another collision on Monday morning, three vehicles and a truck collided on the N2 just after the KwaMbonambi flyover.

According to an eyewitness, Benedict Nzimande, who was driving his truck towards Mtubatuba, a Toyota Yaris behind him suddenly overtook and plowed straight into a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

‘The Yaris spun all over the road and in the process collided with my truck and then hit a passing VW Polo,’ Nzimande said.

The injured occupants were taken to hospital for medical treatment.
