Tough Hume in command

Calvin Hume leads both the WFO Enduro series and X-Country Harescramble series going into the halfway mark.

WHEN the going gets tough, local enduro and cross-country rider Calvin Hume just drops a gear and disappears, leaving his competition in his dust.

Hume claimed podium position after being one of two riders to complete three 16km laps in two hours at the third round of the KZN Regional Junior Enduro held on Sunday at Umzumbe (South Coast).

After this power performance from the Fast Powersports rider on his Kawasaki KX machine, he now officially leads the series at the halfway mark.

Starting in a riverbed and leading into steep rain forest hills inland and steep drop-offs with lots of single tracks covered with roots and logs, made for a hard, challenging ride.

The top riders took 45 minutes to complete a lap within the two hours set time for the race,.

Going into the halfway mark of both the Enduro and Harescramble series, Calvin leads the way after collecting valuable points in all events.

Hume aims to claim the overall series victory in both the X-country Harescramble series, as well as the WFO Enduro series.

He will take a long break before his next X-country Harescramble event in Richmond on 10 August, followed by the WFO Enduro event, also in Richmond on 17 August.

With only six races left for the 2014 season (three Enduro and three Harescramble), Hume looks to step up a gear and claim the Senior 85CC CLASS for both series.

The youngster sped his way to victory in the KZN Harescramble Championships 65CC Class in 2011 before moving up to the 85CC Class.
