Each month, the Department of Trade and Industry releases the figures for new car sales in SA.
Naamsa reported that aggregate industry sales dropped by 2.3% to 52 837 vehicles in June 2014, when compared to the same period a year ago.
Hyundai and Kia do not submit their figures.
So, what happened in June?
The Volkswagen Polo — perhaps boosted by its recent facelift — leapfrogs the Polo Vivo to take first place.
Toyota’s combination of the Corolla, Auris and Corolla Quest holds steady in third.
The new Mercedes-Benz C-Class, meanwhile, rockets up the table to claim fourth place.
The Ford Figo holds its spot in fifth, while the Toyota Etios falls two places to sixth.
BMW’s 3 Series stays in seventh, while the Chevrolet Spark enters the table to snatch eighth place.
The Toyota Fortuner falls another spot to ninth, while the Ford Fiesta hangs onto the final place.
The Volkswagen Golf — which secured ninth in May — drops off the list.
