Ashley’s dad defends his actions

Father released, and Interpol applies for extradition.

IN an exclusive interview with the Zululand Observer, Neels De Jager said he was not a criminal and his actions had motivation.

‘I crossed the border with Ashley because her mother took her to a sangoma. She had cuts on her body as a result. That case went as far as the police and juvenile court in Mozambique.

‘According to the law there, a mother can’t even take a child to the doctor without notifying the father,’ said De Jager

The Zululand Observer confirmed through the police that Interpol has applied for the extradition to take him to Mozambique.

De Jager was arrested by Empangeni Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offensive Unit (FCS) on Tuesday, a week after his daughter disappeared from his house in eNseleni.

In a double ‘kidnapping’ fiasco Ashley was reported reunited with her mother.

Empangeni FSC unit Colonel Makhosi Ncube said Interpol has intervened and is handling the matter.

While the issue about Ashley’s legal guardian has not been resolved, De Jager said he wants his daughter back in South Africa.
