Robber targets pre-primary school

Laptop thief needs to be taught a lesson.

A LOCAL pre-primary school has had to beef up security after a robber fled with a laptop and cellphone this week.

According to Richards Bay Christian School Principal, Bev Chambler, a staff member had stepped out of the classroom for a few minutes and left the sliding door open.

It is believed the robber jumped over the fenced entered the classroom, where children were asleep, and stole a laptop and cell phone.

‘The door was left open for ventilation purposes and the teacher was in the next classroom when the incident happened.

‘It was so quick, literally a few minutes. The door faces the road and we suspect he had been watching the school.

‘No one was injured during the ordeal and despite efforts from staff to pursue the suspect; he escaped into the nearby greenbelt.

‘The doors are usually locked, however, they are sometimes opened to improve ventilation.

‘We have since installed safety gates and staff on high alert,’ she said.
