EFF election posters damaged

Poster war intensifies - EFF reports case of malicious damage to property to police

THE Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has laid a formal complaint with the Richards Bay police on Tuesday after some of their election campaign posters have been vandalised.

uThungulu region EFF organiser, Nkululeko Ngubane, said their posters have been deliberately ripped off poles and damaged in Richards Bay, eNseleni, Mzingazi and Madlanzini.

‘Destroying our posters is useless, it won’t change voters’ minds because they have already decided. It just an act of politically bankrupt people,’ said Ngubane.

‘We formally wanted to open a case of malicious damage to property because we want the public to know this is against the law.’

The EFF denied allegations that their members spray-painting the party’s name on public facilities at Richards Bay and eNseleni taxi ranks.

‘Those who do that in our organisation’s name should stop. They are just people with no brains and not associated with the EFF. If they want to write something, they should spray their own names,’ Ngubane said.

Richards Bay SAPS spokesperson Capt Debbie Ferreira said although the complaint was recorded, a criminal case was not opened as there are no identifiable suspects.

She however warned the public that tampering with electioneering posters was a serious criminal offence.

‘Destroying election posters is a serious crime. People can be charged and spend time in prison,’ said Ferreira.
