A FOURTH year nursing student at Ngwelezana Hospital was stabbed to death by her boyfriend following an altercation earlier this month.
The 32-year-old Thulisiwe Sibiya of Ntambanana sustained about 22 stab wounds to her chest and back and tragically died at the scene, at the Ngwelezana Hospital Nursing Residence.
The suspect, known as Mbonginkosi Gumbi (30) of Gobandlovu area outside eSikhawini, was arrested last week and appeared at the Ngwelezane District Court on Monday, but the case was subsequently remanded to 31 March for bail application.
Until then, Gumbi is to remain in custody at Qalakabusha Prison.
‘It is alleged Sibiya had been accompanied by her boyfriend to her nursing quarters when an argument broke out between the two lovers in the passageway,’ said Empangeni SAPS Spokesperson Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose.
‘Neighbouring residents were disturbed by screams in the corridor and fellow nursing students ran out to see what the commotion was about. They found the stabbed body of Sibiya on the floor and the boyfriend had fled the scene,’ he said.
