Farm robbers in court

Alleged farm workers in court for armed robbery.

THEIR faces covered with balaclavas, guns in hand and ready to attack, two men of Mevamhlophe, who ransacked a farm in March 2013, are expected to appear at court this week.

Bekabakubo Khoza (21) and Nkosingiphile Mshengu (20) will appear at the Empangeni Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for judgement after it is alleged that the men broke into and robbed a farm in Nyoka early last year.

Khoza and Mshengu were arrested and charged with house breaking with the intent to rob and robbery with aggravated circumstances, however, the men pleaded not guilty.

In addition to this, further charges were laid against Khoza after he threatened a woman with a firearm and robbed her of her phone and money in Matshana late last year.

At the time of application, bail was refused and the men have been in custody since their arrest.

According to reports, it is alleged the men were workers on the farm and had waited for the residents to leave before they attacked.

‘The man of the home left early in the morning and his wife left the premises around midday,’ said Empangeni Magistrate’s Court Prosecutor Senzo Magwaza.

‘As soon as the owners left, the men who had been waiting outside the premises attacked the domestic worker and tied up her hands and feet and threw her in the bathroom. They then rummaged through the home and stole cellphones, perfume, alcohol, jewellery, a DSTV decoder, laptop, Garmin GPS and other electronic gadgets,’

‘The men then fled and the domestic worker managed to untie herself and call for help,’ said Magwaza.
