Sister’s search for drowned brother

Man drowned at Port Dunford beach in January.

THE search for a brother’s body has became unbearable for a young eSikhaleni sister, and having to go to different mortuaries and funeral homes has made it difficult to find closure.

Hlengiwe Mchunu has been looking for her young brother’s body since he drowned at Port Dunford beach on 11 January.

Bonginkosi Mchunu (18) disappeared at sea when he attempted to save his cousin.

They were both reported to have been under his sister’s boyfriend’s supervision, Khaya Mkhwanazi during the time of the incident.

Police and a diving team were called to the scene after his family witnessed their loved one being washed away into deep sea.

Last week, the devastated sister was called to view yet another corpse found by the police, however, the body was not the missing brother’s.

‘It is just so painful to check every corpse that police find. Every time I am always hoping it will be my brother. All I want is his body, so that I can arrange a decent funeral for him. It is difficult to find closure and move forward without the body,’ said the sister.

She also said she will soon ask the investigating officer to question witnesses regarding the incident. She believes something ‘strange’ was done to her brother.

ESikhawini police spokesperson Lt Thembinkosi Mkhumane said the they were still searching for the body.
