Cop arrested for colleagues murders

Hawks close in on policemen's shooting

THE Hawks have arrested a police officer for the murders of two KwaDukuza policemen at the weekend.

A team of detectives made a breakthrough in the murder of Student Constable Thobani Xulu, (26) of Nkandla, and Constable Sibusiso Mthethwa, (31), of Ngwelezane.

A 53-year-old police officer based at KwaDukuza was arrested yesterday after detectives were able to piece together what transpired from the evidence on the scene.

The man is expected to appear in the KwaDukuza Magistrates Court tomorrow facing two charges of murder.

Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni said whilst she was pleased that the case had been solved she was ‘extremely disappointed that one of her own could have perpetrated such a cowardly act’.

‘We will ensure that he gets no favours from the SAPS and faces the full might of the law like all other criminals,’ she said.
