Ten years sentence for child rapist

The young victim was waiting at a bus stop on the John Ross Parkway

A MAN who raped a mentally ill pupil and robbed her of her lunchbox and bus fare in 2012 will spend 10 years behind bars for the crime.

Andile Mzobe (32) was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in the Richards Bay Magistrate’s Court.

The young victim, waiting at a bus stop on the John Ross Highway in Richards Bay, was accosted by the accused who demanded money.

He produced a knife and forced her into a nearby bush where he raped her and stole her lunchbox and transport money before fleeing the scene.

Two days later, the complainant was at the bus stop with her mother when she spotted the perpetrator; he was apprehended by community members and handed to police.

SAP spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker said police are pleased this heartless criminal has been removed from society where he can do no further harm to innocent women and children.
