The A team

The trio of Cameron Collum, Micaela Reddy and John Odetokun set the academic benchmark for Richards Bay Christian School

SHRIEKS of joy and sighs of relief filled the air on Tuesday morning as Richards Bay private school pupils culminated 12 years of schooling with sterling academic performances.

At Richards Bay Christian School, it was the trio of Cameron Collum, Micaela Reddy and John Odetokun who set the academic benchmark for the school.

Long hours of studying paid off for local lad Cameron Collum, who led the pack with his feat of eight distinctions in Accounting, Afrikaans, English, Life Orientation, Life Sciences, Maths, Maths P3 and Physical Sciences.

The 18-year-old intends on pursuing a career in Actuarial Science at the University of Cape Town.

‘I am completely shocked. I wasn’t expecting anything that great,’ Cameron told the Zululand Observer shortly after receiving his results.

‘I had a balanced lifestyle of studying and relaxation and I’m just so happy it has paid off.’

Close on Cameron’s heels was Micaela Reddy, who raked in six distinctions and John Odetokun with four distinctions including a score of 94% for Maths.

Brackenham’s Micaela (18) will be studying Medicine at the University of Cape Town this year.

‘All the nerves came to an end today and I am so relieved and happy. I owe this success to God and hard work,’ Micaela said.

Victory

Impressed with the outcome, overjoyed principal Bev Chambler could not contain her emotion on Tuesday.

‘Success is so relative and unique to each individual.

‘When I reflect on the personal stories of each of the 39 matriculants of RBCS in light of their results, there is a celebration for every individual victory.

‘The positive response to academic challenges and effective application of management strategies by our students, excellent tuition from passionate educators and the amazing grace of God have contributed to very pleasing results for 2013,’ Chambler explained.

At Richards Bay Christian School, 97% of pupils qualified for tertiary study, achieving an impressive 40 distinctions and 64 level 6’s.

‘I am very proud of the efforts of all our students.

‘This year our Engineering Graphic Design pupils wrote the IEB AutoCAD exam and 78% of those who wrote achieved a distinction pass for this module.

‘Our Art pupils achieved outstanding practical art results and those who wrote the Advanced programme in Maths also achieved pleasing results,’ added Chambler.
